Silver Spring, Md. (June 6, 2016) – Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, today announced it will broadcast an exclusive virtual field trip for students around the world on June 10 at 9:30 A.M. EST  celebrating the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. During this unique, no-cost learning experience, students will be virtually transported to Windsor Castle in England for a unique exploration of The Queen’s life and a special celebration of Britain’s longest reigning monarch.

Hosted by British television presenters Diane Louise Jordan and Joe Crowley, ‘Happy Birthday, Your Majesty’ will take students inside the historic royal residence of Windsor Castle, which has served as the family home of British kings and queens for nearly 1,000 years. Suitable for students of all ages, this engaging, interactive broadcast will examine important moments in
The Queen’s life and reign, shine a light on her role in the British constitution, and explore
Her Majesty’s connection to the Commonwealth, a voluntary association of 53 countries that work together in the common interests of their citizens for development, democracy and peace. The event will also feature a glimpse inside Windsor Castle’s famous State Apartments, a performance by the Choristers of St George’s Chapel, and a collaborative writing experience featuring students in the UK, Canada, and India. This public opening of Windsor Castle, which is one of the official residences of Her Majesty The Queen, is managed by Royal Collection Trust.

The event will be streamed live on Discovery Education’s website, and schools can register by visiting www.discoveryeducation.co.uk/HMQ90.  Schools watching live are encouraged to participate by submitting questions online via Twitter using the hashtag #HMQ90TeaParty.  An archive of the event will be available for viewing after the event.

“I’m looking forward to utilizing this virtual field trip to deepen my students’ understanding of Queen Elizabeth II’s life and legacy,” said Dacia Jones, educator at North Carolina’s Durham Public Schools. “This memorable digital experience will transport my students to Windsor Castle – a place where they might otherwise never be able to go – and connect them to a global community of their peers.”

“This unique virtual field trip gives students everywhere the opportunity to be involved in Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday celebrations,” said Kelli Campbell, senior vice president and digital learning officer at Discovery Education. “The program will shine a light on the important role she has played in history during her lifetime, and help teachers bring learning to life in a way that no textbook can.”
