Discovery Education Announces 2017 Dates for No-Cost Professional Development Events Supporting School Leaders

–The Powerful Practices Series Returns with Two Events Exploring New Instructional Leadership Practices that Make a Difference in Teaching and Learning–

Silver Spring, Md. (February 1, 2017) — Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, again invites superintendents and educators nationwide to participate in Powerful Practices: The Instructional Leadership Experience.  These two, no-cost, one day, interactive professional development events taking place in San Francisco, CA, on February 24 th, and Seattle, WA, on March 10th, will engage participants in conversations with renowned education experts and explore innovative instructional leadership practices that make a significant difference in teaching and learning.

Discovery Education has designed these exclusive professional development events to provide multiple opportunities for educators to participate in hands-on activities throughout the day, explore digital resources that build student engagement, and connect, network, and collaborate with their peers. Powerful Practices is designed specifically for public and private school leaders interested in improving their students’ academic achievement through the thoughtful application of innovative teaching and learning practices. Attendees will leave this experience with cost-neutral, actionable strategies that can be implemented and scaled in any K-12 setting.

“Discovery Education’s Powerful Practice events are rapidly becoming one of education’s ‘must attend’ professional learning opportunities,” said Kathleen McCreery, Executive Director, California ASCD. “I am looking forward to connecting with my colleagues in education from across the region to explore new ideas and strategies for supporting the success of all learners.”

The Powerful Practices event in San Francisco, CA on February 24th will be held at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco and the March 10th event in Seattle, WA will be held at the Hyatt at Olive 8. George Couros, a distinguished Canadian education leader and expert on the innovator’s mindset, will keynote both events. An internationally renowned educator, Couros has worked with all K-12 levels as a teacher, technology facilitator, and administrator, and is the author of the book The Innovator’s Mindset: Empower Learning, Unleash Talent, and Lead a Culture of Creativity.

During his keynote, Couros will discuss how to impact student achievement by leading with an innovator’s mindset. Then, participants will join colleagues from across the country to discuss best practices in personalized learning, literacy, culturally responsive teaching, and student engagement. They also will explore how digital resources can be used to enrich inquiry-based learning experiences for all students, and how this approach can be particularly effective when differentiating instruction to meet the needs of students with special needs and English-language learners.
