Silver Spring, Md. (Apr. 14, 2009) – Discovery Education has been honored with two 2009 BESSIE Awards from the ComputED Learning Center for Discovery Education Science for Elementary and Discovery Education streaming.
Discovery Education Science for Elementary was awarded a BESSIE in the Best Science Web Site for Upper Elementary category for a second year in a row. Discovery Education Science for Elementary is a standards-based digital resource for upper elementary school students, featuring a broad array of high-impact assets covering life, physical, and earth science. An extension of the award-winning Discovery Education Science for Middle School, these two services together offers a complete digital solution for educators seeking to improve student achievement in the sciences.
The ComputED Learning Center also awarded Discovery Education streaming a BESSIE for Best Digital Video Library in the Teacher Tools category. Discovery Education streaming, the digital video-based learning resource scientifically shown to improve academic achievement, offers district teachers and students a library of up to 9,000 videos and 71,000 video clips aligned to state academic standards and searchable by keyword, content area and grade level. The rich video content and other digital assets from Discovery Education enhance curriculum and engage today’s students in learning.
“We are grateful to the team at ComputED Learning Center for this recognition,” said Kelli Campbell, Senior Vice President of Content and Product Development for Discovery Education. “We strive to create not only outstanding instructional tools such as Discovery Education streaming and Discovery Education Science for Elementary, but also programs like the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge and the Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge, which ignite student curiosity and engage students in learning.”
This is the 15th year of the Annual Best Educational Software Awards (BESSIES). The ComputED Gazette and Computer Learning Lab, San Diego’s leading computer education resource, sponsor the award program. Targeting innovative and content-rich programs and Web sites that provide parents and teachers with the technology to foster educational excellence, the program selects winners from titles submitted by digital resource publishers from around the world.
