DISCOVERY EDUCATION EARNS FOUR FINALIST AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE FROM THE ASSOCIATION OF EDUCATIONAL PUBLISHERS
--Curriculum Solution, Science Techbook and Initiatives Recognized for Outstanding Content --
Silver Spring, Md. (May 10, 2011) – The Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) has named four services and initiatives from Discovery Education as finalists in its 2011 AEP Awards program, including Discovery Education streaming Plus and Discovery Education Science Techbook. One of the largest and longest-running programs of its kind, the AEP Awards and its seal of excellence are widely recognized by educators, administrators and parents as a mark of outstanding educational value.
Discovery Education streaming Plus has been named a finalist in the Technology Innovations category for the Golden Lamp Awards, the industry’s top honor recognizing the best overall tools for teaching and learning. Golden Lamp finalists and winners are defined by their superior use of content, design and fulfillment of the product’s educational mission. Four finalists are chosen in four categories, representing 16 of the year’s most elite resources in the industry.
Discovery Education streaming Plus features a collection of more than 150,000 digital learning objects, including videos, interactives, images, and articles, which integrate seamlessly into any curriculum. Aligned to state and national standards, and searchable by keyword, content area and grade level, the rich media from Discovery Education engages today’s students in learning.
The Distinguished Achievement Awards honor the best in a range of product types and resources used by teachers, parents and students in four categories: Curriculum, Periodicals, Professional Development, and Technology, but are judged further according to subject area and grade level. Entries are evaluated on traits such as efficacy, usability and overall educational value.
Discovery Education earned two Distinguished Achievement Award finalist honors:
In addition, the Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge, a national K-12 sustainability education initiative between Discovery Education, the Siemens Foundation, the National Science Teachers Association, and the College Board, is a finalist for a Beacon Award in the Integrated Marketing Campaign category. Finalists create effective branding and engaging messages that communicate the value of their products to teachers, administrators and parents. Entries are judged on design and editorial quality, efficacy in reaching intended audience, and overall cohesiveness.
“Innovation takes many forms, from the next wave of education-based technology to the exemplars of tried and true formats or products,” explained Eric Hamilton, 2011 AEP Awards Chair. “The submissions we received this year covered the entire spectrum, and we are very pleased to see that educational products are keeping up with the times.”
For more than four decades, the AEP Awards have honored outstanding resources for teaching and learning in all media and for any educational setting. Award winners meet the highest standards for quality, professional content for education and represent the most innovative learning solutions currently on the market. Founded in 1895, AEP is a nonprofit organization that serves and advances the industry of educational publishing.
Golden Lamp and Distinguished Achievement Award winners will be announced at the 2011 AEP Awards Banquet & Gala on June 8, 2011 in Washington, D.C.
