Give us a call. We’re committed to improving teaching and learning and that often means helping districts define their goals. We would be happy to discuss the measurable, observable behaviors and results that you’d like to see and create a plan for you that meets your professional development needs, goals, and budget. Allow us to customize your assessment and digital content needs for classroom instruction, to remediate, or to accelerate student learning.
Discovery Education Professional Development is focused on improving teaching and learning, which means that all of our professional development helps educators integrate instructional strategies that work, rich content, and technology. We have worked with educators that have one computer in the classroom and educators who use one-to-one computing environments. We even have a course specifically designed to help educators that do not have interactive tools. Our benchmark assessments can be administered on-line or on paper.
All our plans are customized to meet your needs. Districts may invest in one course or a multi-year plan or anything in-between, all designed to support your goals. And, since we believe in the value of keeping teachers working with their students, we also take a job-embedded approach, using model lesson demonstrations and coaching structures that allow teachers to stay in class whenever possible.
Discovery Education Professional Development offers a unique approach to professional development. Beginning with valid, reliable and predicable formative assessment data, teachers learn to focus on what students actually know compared to what they need to know based on state standards. Backed by the #1 non-fiction media brand in the world, Discovery Education is able to bring rich digital content, expertise in instruction, and the most up-to-date application of technology in the classroom to address academic needs. We use all of our resources to support the needs and goals that you define, working in true partnership with you and your staff.
Each of our partnerships is customized to district or school needs. We will work with you to understand your needs and goals and propose an implementation plan for you from the start. The costs will be presented up front and will be clear and inclusive. It is impossible to estimate cost without specific district or school information, but our professional development courses usually cost $2500/day for a six-hour on-site training with one of our expert professional development instructors. Please contact your Discovery Education account representative to plan your courses and costs today.
We understand all the scheduling constraints you face. That’s why we work with you to design an implementation that works for you. We’re happy to arrange professional development in a variety of combinations: traditional professional development days, Saturday academies, train-the-trainer models that support coaching structures, webinars, and in-classroom model lesson demonstrations.
All the professional development offered by Discovery Education uses an approach that integrates the digital content and media tools offered by Discovery Education into the curriculum and lesson plans through differentiation of instruction and may include formative assessment training. Teachers will not just learn how to use the products from Discovery Education, but also how to create high quality learning experiences for their students. Our courses also cover tools outside of the Discovery Education suite of services.

Yes! Key research on adult learning theory stipulates that in order for learning to proceed to a point in which the learner is fully confident, multiple learning opportunities are essential. Discovery Education can partner with a school or district to provide multiple professional development sessions within one school year or multiple sessions over several school years, plus on-going support to ensure your current teachers, as well as newly hired teachers, are confident in using the instructional tools in a robust fashion with your students, maximizing academic achievement.
Each course has a unique set of learning outcomes for your teachers. You can also customize training with our team at Discovery Education to meet the specific learning needs of your teachers. Please see the specific course descriptions for the learning outcomes for each course.

The best approach is to meet with our Discovery Education team of experts several months in advance to schedule your professional development days. We are able to accommodate more immediate requests.
Winter weather, changed school schedules…Discovery Education understands! Key to our collaborative planning relationship is developing schedules in advance and articulating back-up dates should we need to reschedule.
Discovery Education respects your teachers’ needs to be in small learning environments, but also understands school budgets. We hold a standard of enrollment for our professional development sessions at 25 participants to ensure individual needs are met, differentiation in our training can occur, while still involving a large number of your teachers.
I would place the professional development that has been provided at the top of the list in terms of quality, in terms of relevancy as well as engagement of the teachers and helping them see the possibilities of their students.
