Fission

Definition
A single neutron enters the nucleus of a uranium-235 atom making it an unstable Uranium-236 atom. The nucleus of the atom splits releasing an incredible amount of energy, one barium atom, one krypton atom, and three neutrons. The released neutrons are absorbed by other uranium atoms starting a chain reaction of fission.
