Try rubbing your dry hand across a dry table top. Notice how your hand vibrates as it moves. The vibration is actually a tiny kind of earthquake. The Earth’s surface is not one piece but is made of many pieces called tectonic plates. The plates are usually steady and still. But when they suddenly move against each other they vibrate causing the ground to shake and crack open – Earthquake!!
