Professional Development Accelerates Digital Transformation

Grand Prairie Independent School District was interested in shifting their culture to engage students and prepare them for college and entrance into the technology-fueled workforce. Working with administrators, classroom teachers, and parents, Discovery Education developed a strategy for GPISD that included engaging and motivating digital content and professional development as a key to their digital conversion.

Challenge

Focused on high-yield instructional strategies that result in sustainable improvements in student engagement and achievement, Grand Prairie's leadership team articulated the desire to design professional learning opportunities for Grand Prairie to enhance teaching in ways that systemically impact learning.  Discovery Education partnered with the district to develop a customized learning plan that supports its ongoing digital transition.

Solution

Grand Prairie Independent School District implemented the following Discovery Education services:
  • Discovery Education Curricular Resources: Discovery Education Streaming Plus and Discovery Education Techbook™
  • Discovery Education Professional Development, through over 140 concurrent sessions and 2,300 educators effected. These learning experiences showcased creative ways to motivate students and invigorate curriculum using the latest innovations in teaching and learning.  Participants experienced model classrooms that incorporate the use of digital learning centers and lessons tied to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

Results — Excited, Eager Educators and Students

The digital transformation is an ongoing effort. The change in culture, an embracing of digital content as one of the engines of classroom discussion and instruction, resulted in educators excited to implement the new ideas and techniques gained through their immersive experiences.

To kick off the 2013-2014 school year, we delivered 140 high-quality sessions over two days to the entire Grand Prairie ISD staff — almost 2,300 educators and administrators — to support the district's digital transformation.
