Centers-Based Teaching and Learning
Experience the future now! Participants are immersed in a Discovery Education Streaming Plus teaching and learning experience. Using a centers-based instructional approach, participants experience a model lesson firsthand, moving through a variety of stations designed to build student content knowledge, collaboration and communication skills, and problem solving ability. Directions, management, resources, and planning techniques for centers are shared. With the support of planning materials and a Discovery Education Specialist, educators create their own centers-based lesson appropriate for a one-to-one or one-to-many computer environment.
Maximizing Student Engagement
Uncover the power and potential of the Discovery Education Streaming Student Center. Participants experience innovative teaching and learning that incorporates rigorous assignments aligned with Common Core State Standards and expectations. Teachers create a digital assignment that includes two or more digital resources along with a performance task that supports effective student demonstration of learning. Participants capitalize on the universal design features embedded in Discovery Education Streaming and create pathways for all students to answer high-level essential questions and meet learning objectives.
See a Discovery Education lesson in action in an authentic classroom environment. A Classroom Demonstration brings a Discovery Education Specialist into the classroom to deliver a short, media-enriched presentation to students while the teacher observes. The demonstration lesson combines research-based instructional practices with a Discovery Education service (such as Streaming or Science Techbook™) to engage students with grade- and subject- specific content. Afterward, the teacher and Discovery Education Specialist discuss their observations, debrief the experience, and develop plans for future lesson design and delivery with students.
Powerful Strategies for Increasing Engagement
Turn on the creativity! In this course, participants focus on improving historical content knowledge acquisition using resources from Discovery Education Science Techbook™. Participants also learn how to use Web 2.0 tools to foster student collaboration, critical thinking, and engagement. A Discovery Education Specialist helps participants use digital media in conjunction with the principles of universal design to provide multiple means for students to represent and express their scientific understanding. Time is provided for participants to create their own projects and lessons.
