Presented in an engaging, hands-on style, this session helps teachers new to Discovery Education Assessment to understand the true value of interim benchmark data.
Using Data to Inform Instruction
|Drive focused instruction through data to drive student success. This course helps teachers enhance their classroom instruction through the use of real-time data. Participants work with a Discovery Education Specialist to analyze classroom and student reports, drill down into data to identify specific areas of instructional intervention or enrichment, and incorporate digital resources that enhance teaching strategies and interventions. With these proven tools, educators use data to identify students’ areas of strength and need and use that information to support focused planning, teaching, and assessment. Participants will also explore powerful and engaging lesson plans to address achievement gaps.|

Data-Driven Improvement Planning
Use student data to drive results and improve learning and performance. Using a protocol to promote data-driven dialogue, participants work in school-based teams to identify patterns and trends in student learning using data collected from multiple sources. A Discovery Education Specialist supports collaborative teams through the process of discussing the implications of their data, confirming influencing factors with additional data sources, and developing consensus around action steps from school-wide improvement perspectives. Teams will also use data to identify their expectations for student learning and performance.
Make Item Writing Sizzle
Personalize your assessments through the Progress Zone tool, which houses 67,000 K–12 assessment items teachers can use to measure and monitor individual student progress. This powerful tool also allows teachers to add new items. In this three-hour session, a Discovery Education Specialist guides participants in the design of valid and reliable items. Participants share teacher-created items to foster collaboration, professional learning, and the evaluation of items for Depth of Knowledge (DOK). Participants also explore how captured data elements highlight achievement gaps and drive instructional decisions.
