Commonwealth Charter Academy Extends Partnership with Discovery Education, Bringing Digital Content to Students Across Pennsylvania

Extension of Multi-Year Collaboration Continues Bringing Engaging K-12 Digital Resources to Students and Educators

Silver Spring, Md. (February 24, 2020)Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA), a statewide public cyber charter school that serves Pennsylvania students in grades K through 12, today announced the extension of its multi-year collaboration with Discovery Education, the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms.

This renewed partnership, which brings the award-winning Discovery Education Experience to K-12 students statewide, assists CCA in providing personalized educational programs and services to Pennsylvania students in grades K through 12 at no cost to families.

CCA was founded in 2003 as a statewide K-12 public cyber charter school and provides an online education to all Pennsylvania students, including those living in Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Erie, Allentown, and Scranton, at no cost to families.  Through the use of online Live Lessons, recorded lessons, workbook projects, career pathways programs, and more, CCA helps its nearly 10,500 students gain the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to become productive, contributing members of their communities.

CCA offers students a personalized approach to learning that combines an evolving and growing curriculum with the latest instructional practices.  To continue providing the school’s students custom educational experiences and K-12 online classes, CCA’s educators will use Discovery Education Experience for instruction.

“CCA’s focus is to meet students where they are in their educational journey by providing programs and services designed to match their skills, interests and academic needs,” said Dr. Maurice Flurie, CCA’s president and CEO.  “Discovery Education Experience is an important component of CCA’s educational delivery system and we are excited to continue this partnership.”

Discovery Education Experience—the latest iteration of Discovery Education’s popular Streaming Plus service—is a comprehensive digital service supplementing instruction across all K–12 curricular areas.  Discovery Education Experience assists educators in creating real-world learning opportunities that engage all students and lead to improved academic achievement.  The service’s standards-aligned content is assignable and can be bookmarked and saved for later use and remixed to meet the varying needs of diverse student populations in a safe and secure environment.  In addition, the service’s up-to-date, high-quality, and ever-growing digital content collections, as well as a library of immersive virtual field trips and viewing parties, are drawn from trusted partners.

Students in elementary, middle and high school who have regular access to Discovery Education’s comprehensive, K-12 digital content service have higher attendance rates and are outpacing their peers on state assessments in reading, mathematics, and social studies. Additional findings tell a consistent story of how access to Discovery Education’s supplemental content services can be linked to higher student achievement, especially for racial/ethnic minorities and students impacted by poverty, disabilities, and limited English proficiency. Click here to learn more.

CAA’s educators will continue to use Discovery Education’s ScienceMath, and Social Studies Techbooks to create immersive learning experiences for students. In addition, the Discovery Education Community will continue supporting the school’s teachers. A global community of education professionals, the Discovery Education Community connects members across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration.

Massachusetts’ Andover Public Schools Choose Discovery Education Experience to Support Innovative, Child-Centered Learning

–New Partnership Provides District Educators and Students Access to Award-Winning Digital Content That Supports Instruction Across All K-12 Curricular Areas–

Silver Spring, Md. (February 19, 2020) – Massachusetts’ Andover Public Schools (APS) announce the selection of Discovery Education Experience to support innovative, child-centered learning in all K-12 classrooms districtwide.  Created by Discovery Education, the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms, the award-winning Discovery Education Experience is a comprehensive digital service supplementing instruction across all K–12 curricular areas.

To support the district’s continued focus on providing innovative instruction that prepares students for success beyond the classroom, district leaders sought a K-12 digital supplemental curricular resource. After a careful review, the district selected Discovery Education Experience.

“The Andover Public Schools are focused on providing excellence in child-centered instruction in early childhood, elementary, and secondary classrooms across the district,” said Joanne Najarian, APS’s director of Digital Learning. “One of the district’s strategic goals has always been the creation of authentic student learning experiences that moves curricular rigor forward.  The addition of Discovery Education Experience to our teachers’ collection of resources provides our educators a powerful new tool that will help them work toward the district’s strategic goals.”

Discovery Education Experience—the latest iteration of Discovery Education’s popular Streaming Plus service—assists educators in creating real-world learning opportunities that engage all students and lead to improved academic achievement.

Students in elementary, middle and high school that have regular access to Discovery Education’s comprehensive, K-12 digital content service have higher attendance rates and are outpacing their peers on state assessments in reading, mathematics, and social studies. Additional findings tell a consistent story of how access to Discovery Education’s supplemental content services can be linked to higher student achievement, especially for racial/ethnic minorities and students impacted by poverty, disabilities, and limited English proficiency. Click here to learn more.

To help APS educators integrate their new digital resources into classroom instruction in the coming school year, Discovery Education will provide district teachers numerous professional learning opportunities. Through these interactive professional development opportunities, participants will learn best practices for integrating technology and digital content into teaching and learning in ways that will maximize the power of their new resources, increase student engagement in instruction, and improve students’ academic achievement.

This new partnership also offers APS teachers access to the Discovery Education Community. A global community of education professionals, the Discovery Education Community connects members across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration.

“We at Discovery Education are very excited to kick-off this new partnership with the Andover Public Schools,” said John David Son, Discovery Education’s Senior Manager of Education Partnerships. “Andover’s talented team of educators combined with Discovery Education’s dynamic digital content and professional learning opportunities make an unbeatable combination that will support district students’ continued success.”

Located just north of Boston, APS currently enrolls approximately 6,000 students in one preschool, five K-5 elementary schools, three middle schools, and a senior high school. Andover prides itself as one of the highest performing school districts in Massachusetts and is very competitive with top public and private schools in the nation.  The district’s graduation rate is 96% (third highest in the state) and 95% of APS students are college-bound.  These outstanding milestones are testaments to the culture and climate of APS schools, the rigor of their curriculum, the inclusiveness of their instruction, and the close monitoring of student progress in order to adjust instruction to meet the needs of each student.
