-Epic natural history series empowers educators to engage students in cross-curricular lessons-

Silver Spring, Md. (Jan. 11, 2011) – Discovery Education is pleased to announce the addition of two epic natural history series, OCEANS BLUE and LIFE, to Discovery Education`s curriculum-based digital content services.

In addition to full-length episodes from both series, clips and classroom resources aligned to provincial standards are available, further empowering critical thinking among students and supporting educators in taking a cross-curricular instructional approach. Discovery Education is the leading provider of high quality curriculum-based digital content and professional development services.

The six-part series OCEANS BLUE, available now to Discovery Education streaming Canada subscribers, provides a better understanding of the state of our seas. During filming, the OCEANS BLUE team undertook a series of underwater scientific expeditions, led by a team of intrepid adventurers, including Paul Rose, Dr. Lucy Blue, Tooni Mahto, and Discovery Education`s own Chief Spokesperson for Environmental Education, Philippe Cousteau.

Also recently added to Discovery Education streaming Plus Canada is LIFE. From the makers of PLANET EARTH and narrated by Sir David Attenborough, the 10-part series LIFE is the definitive exploration of our planet`s living things and their spectacular, bizarre and fascinating behaviors. More than four years in the making, with more than 3,000 days of filming in the field, LIFE spans every continent and every habitat. Each episode focuses on a different animal or plant group, engrossing viewers with never-before-seen behaviors using the latest in state-of-the-art high-definition filming techniques. From strange creatures, such as the star-nosed mole that hunts underwater using bubbles to smell its prey, to grand spectacles like millions of fruit bats darkening the Zambian sky, each episode tells mind-blowing stories of survival with drama, humor and suspense.

“Dynamic digital content, such as OCEANS BLUE and LIFE, has the unique ability to transport students beyond the classroom, further engaging them in lessons,” commented Susan Tipper, superintendent of New Brunswick School District # 8 in Saint John. “I`m looking forward to integrating content from both of these exciting series into district curricula.”

Customized to meet the specific needs of Canadian schools, Discovery Education streaming Canada and Discovery Education streaming Plus Canada include tens of thousands of digital learning objects, including videos, interactives, images, articles, and more, that integrate seamlessly into any curriculum. Aligned to provincial standards, and searchable by keyword, content area and grade level, the rich video content and other digital assets from Discovery Education engage Canada`s media-savvy students in learning.
