The digital age produces two major inevitabilities: Digital ‘techbooks’, dynamic, less expensive, more effective
supplementary resources –especially for today’s learners--and digital tools (apps) that make tablets themselves teaching tools. Technology will combine these functionalities into a single learning device. In a BYOD world, it’s time to see what ‘techbooks’ really mean and explore tools that make tablets magical.

Join us as we take you on a journey through “A Day in the Life” of a 21st century classroom from the perspective of its teacher. Morning bell to afternoon dismissal, see how digital media from Discovery Education enriches lessons by differentiating instruction, meeting the needs of the individual student.

Teachers, Technology and the Common Core Transition Presented by Shanika Hope and Susanne Meixsell
This session will explore high-impact instructional practices designed to support educators with their transition to the Common Core State Standards.   Participants will examine practical strategies for using digital content and technologies to engage students in today’s 21st Century classrooms.   Session concepts and ideas include the integration of common core focused content, pedagogy best practices, and effective use of instructional technology to improve learning for all students.

The Digital Classroom: What Does it Look Like? (With a Sneak Peek of Discovery Education’s New Digital Textbook Series) Presented by Brad Fountain
Students today engage with content differently than any previous generation. Districts across the country are selecting the complete digital primary instructional resource, Discovery Education Science Techbook, over traditional textbooks. Strategies for success with digital in any classroom - one computer, several computers and 1:1 classrooms - will be shared, along with a preview of our two newest digital textbook series: High School Science and Middle School Social Studies.

Making Mobile Media Meaningful in Your Classroom (and Beyond) Presented by Hall Davidson
Make your classroom walls expand and the world come alive with information. iPads, tablets, and mobile phones create and share learning both in the classroom and the extended anywhere/anytime universe.  On computer or mobile, build interactive projects and assessments that expand learning with apps, QR codes, social media sites, and more.  Learn how free resources, media libraries, and the web can work mobile—even for students without smart phones. iPad and mobile will be used but applies to other platforms.

Think outside the box, and outside the book, when it comes to your strategic curriculum planning.  We’ll showcase a variety of our partnerships with districts around that country that show how we support the digital transition including curriculum mapping, sustained professional development and digital curricular resources.

See examples of how teachers across the nation are utilizing media to help transform their teaching from the hook at the beginning of the unit to the summative assessments at the end.
