The Vanderbilt Assessment for Leadership in Education (VAL-ED), distributed by Discovery Education, is a researched-based evaluation tool that measures the effectiveness of school leaders by providing a detailed assessment of a principal's perceived performance. Aligned to the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium, VAL-ED focuses on learning-centered leadership behaviors that influence teachers, staff, and most importantly, student achievement. Our teachers worked very hard this year to focus on the objectives tested by the state, but for the first time we had access to Discovery Education Assessment P.A.S.S. tests. This program really helped us achieve some great quartile gains. Our teachers could see where the students needed to improve and were helped to understand the changes we could make. We are very proud of our progress in student achievement and it was reflected in enormous test score gains.
