Connected Educator Month DEN Calendar of Events

October 1 - Kathy’s Katch is a monthly blog post from educational technologist Kathy Schrock that provides great resources and ideas to support teaching and learning.  This month, Kathy will be sharing her favorite curation tools for gathering and sharing information.
 
October 2 - What’s the 4-1-1?  This monthly webinar series highlights 4 integration strategies for using Discovery Education, 1 educational program and 1 hot topic. Each webinar allows you to walk away with a bag full of new tips, tricks and resources.  This month we’ll help make common sense of the Common Core by providing resources and examples of media-infused lessons. 
 
October 3 - #DENChat is a weekly Twitter chat organized by members of the Discovery Educator Network.  It’s a great way to get started with Twitter and meet some other amazing educators like yourself.  DEN tip: You do not have to be a Twitter user to view the tweets, but to share information yourself, you will need an account. See October 8 for more information :)
 
October 4 - DEN Connects - Get involved with an innovative project, created by STAR members of the Discovery Educator Network, that allows educators and students to connect on a global level around central themes to share learning..  
 
October 5 - DENapalooza Minneapolis is one of the stops on our professional development tour across North America.  It is a full day professional development opportunity for educators.  This free event includes formal presentations combined with an unconference to enhance the learning and networking of those who attend.
 
October 6 - Featured Board – Take a look at this week’s Featured Board created with Discovery Education Board Builder.
 
October 7 - Spotlight on Strategies -  This S.O.S series provides help, tips, and tricks for integrating DE media into your curriculum.  This week’s post will show how students can use images from Discovery Education to create a PechaKucha presentation.
 
October 8 - Getting Started with Twitter webinar - So you’ve wanted to get started with Twitter  for a while now, but haven’t found the time.  Well, tons of ideas, free resources and amazing educators are waiting for you.  Join Chad Lehman, DEN Community Manager, for this hands-on, 60 minute webinar to get started with Twitter.
 
October 9 - Autodesk Virtual Field Trip - Take your students on a virtual field trip to the Autodesk Gallery in San Francisco to explore the amazing world of design!  The Autodesk Gallery is a showroom of innovative design work that illustrates the role Autodesk technology plays in great design, engineering, and architecture projects. 
 
October 10 - #DENChat is a weekly Twitter chat organized by members of the Discovery Educator Network.  It’s a great way to get started with Twitter and meet some other amazing educators like yourself.  DEN tip: You do not have to be a Twitter user to view the tweets, but to share information yourself, you will need an account.
 
October 11 - Five to Follow on Friday (#ff) - Looking to expand your Personal Learning Network and find great educators to learn from? On the DEN blog we’ll highlight five great educators from the community and how you can start following what they do.  
 
October 12 - 50 Board Builder Ideas – This blog post will share 50 ways to use Discovery Education Board Builder with your students.
 
October 13 - Featured Board – Take a look at this week’s Featured Board created with Discovery Education Board Builder.
 
October 14 - Spotlight on Strategies - This S.O.S series provides help, tips, and tricks for integrating DE media into your curriculum.  This week’s post will show how students can summarize videos using 140 character like “tweets.”.
 
October 15 - Using Google Hangouts to Connect - Join us on a Google Hangout to learn how other educators are using Google Hangouts to connect with other educators and learn from each other.
 
October 16 - Hangout with the DENvisory Board - Join the members of the DENvisory Board for this hangout.
 
October 17 - Museum of Science Virtual Field Trip - Join other classrooms for a virtual field trip to the Museum of Science on Boston.  This event will explore the natural and human-made world through the lens of engineering. Come with your questions ready as we spark your students' interest in STEM fields.
 
October 18 - DEN’s Favorite Things – Find out some of the DEN Community’s favorite content from Discovery Education and how they’re using it in the classroom in this blog series.
 
October 19 - DEN Fall VirtCon - The DEN Fall Virtual Conference is a free professional development event for educators to learn about the most effective ways to integrate digital media into their instructional practices.  The sessions will be broadcast online, but you can attend either from your own home or at one of the many face-to- face (F2F) events around the world.
 
October 20 - Featured Board – Take a look at this week’s Featured Board created with Discovery Education Board Builder.
 
October 21 - Spotlight on Strategies - This S.O.S series provides help, tips, and tricks for integrating DE media into your curriculum.  This week’s post will show how students can create their own “25 Things You Didn’t Know” list for a topic of study.
 
October 22 - DENZone Podcast - Hosted by DEN STAR David Fischer, this podcast series interviews DEN members and educational leaders about hot topics in the field of educational technology.
 
October 23 - DEN Reads Book Study – Join other educators for a book study about a great professional title.
 
October 24 - When the Smartest Person in the Room Isn’t in the Room with Hall Davidson - When you're implementing a new technology, new device, or can't figure out why something doesn't work, there are ways to find help beyond a simple Google search.  This will be a one hour presentation available for viewing online.
