Commonwealth Charter Academy Extends Partnership with Discovery Education, Bringing Digital Content to Students Across Pennsylvania
Extension of Multi-Year Collaboration Continues Bringing Engaging K-12 Digital Resources to Students and Educators
Silver Spring, Md. (February 24, 2020) – Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA), a statewide public cyber charter school that serves Pennsylvania students in grades K through 12, today announced the extension of its multi-year collaboration with Discovery Education, the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms.
This renewed partnership, which brings the award-winning Discovery Education Experience to K-12 students statewide, assists CCA in providing personalized educational programs and services to Pennsylvania students in grades K through 12 at no cost to families.
CCA was founded in 2003 as a statewide K-12 public cyber charter school and provides an online education to all Pennsylvania students, including those living in Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Erie, Allentown, and Scranton, at no cost to families. Through the use of online Live Lessons, recorded lessons, workbook projects, career pathways programs, and more, CCA helps its nearly 10,500 students gain the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to become productive, contributing members of their communities.
CCA offers students a personalized approach to learning that combines an evolving and growing curriculum with the latest instructional practices. To continue providing the school’s students custom educational experiences and K-12 online classes, CCA’s educators will use Discovery Education Experience for instruction.

Discovery Education Experience—the latest iteration of Discovery Education’s popular Streaming Plus service—is a comprehensive digital service supplementing instruction across all K–12 curricular areas. Discovery Education Experience assists educators in creating real-world learning opportunities that engage all students and lead to improved academic achievement. The service’s standards-aligned content is assignable and can be bookmarked and saved for later use and remixed to meet the varying needs of diverse student populations in a safe and secure environment. In addition, the service’s up-to-date, high-quality, and ever-growing digital content collections, as well as a library of immersive virtual field trips and viewing parties, are drawn from trusted partners.
Students in elementary, middle and high school who have regular access to Discovery Education’s comprehensive, K-12 digital content service have higher attendance rates and are outpacing their peers on state assessments in reading, mathematics, and social studies. Additional findings tell a consistent story of how access to Discovery Education’s supplemental content services can be linked to higher student achievement, especially for racial/ethnic minorities and students impacted by poverty, disabilities, and limited English proficiency. CAA’s educators will continue to use Discovery Education’s Science, Math, and Social Studies Techbooks to create immersive learning experiences for students. Currently accessed by more than 9.2 million students across all 50 states and Canada, Discovery Education’s award-winning Techbooks are fully interactive, comprehensive digital textbooks. Updated regularly at no cost, Discovery Education’s Science, Math, and Social Studies Techbooks include detailed lesson plans, hands-on activities, digital simulations, and robust teacher supports that immerse students in instruction.
