School System Adopts Full Suite of Digital Curriculum Resources for Selected Courses in Middle and High School as Part of an Ongoing Effort to Strengthen Digital Learning

Silver Spring, MD (June 11, 2019) — Indiana’s Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) today announced the renewal of its partnership with Discovery Education , the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms. Through this expanded, multi-year collaboration, Discovery Education will support the school district’s ongoing commitment to helping students maximize their fullest potential through modern classrooms powered by innovative digital curriculum resources.

Located at the southern tip of Indiana and bordering Kentucky and Illinois, the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation serves a diverse population of nearly 23,000 students.  EVSC’s teachers and administrators are committed to providing outstanding educational opportunities to all students and are guided in their efforts by the district’s goal to maximize digital resources and learning.  Among the core strategies that will help district students reach their full potential is the continued implementation of a robust academic curriculum featuring resources that support personalized, rigorous instruction in all classrooms.

To support this strategy, EVSC will expand their use of Discovery Education’s award-winning Techbooks. In addition to continuing their use of the Science Techbook, EVSC’s educators will in the coming school year begin to integrate the Social Studies Techbook into middle school classroom instruction and the Math Techbook into middle school honors and high school classroom instruction.  Discovery Education’s Science, Social Studies, and Math Techbooks are currently used by approximately 5.6 million students across all 50 states and Canada. An immersive digital curriculum, Discovery Education’s Techbooks are aligned to rigorous standards and updated regularly at no cost. Each Techbook provides educators with detailed lesson plans, embedded formative assessments, hands-on activities, digital simulations, and robust teacher supports that deeply engage students in learning.

Discovery Education’s Science Techbook is built on the 5E model and helps teach students to read, write, and think like scientists through hands-on labs, digital explorations, an interactive glossary, data analysis activities, and powerful STEM resources. The Social Studies Techbook uses an inquiry-based instructional approach that emphasizes informational text literacy, analytical writing, and problem-solving skills that students will apply in the classroom and beyond. The Math Techbook is a digital textbook that connects students to math through real-world problems, helping all learners develop long-lasting mastery of mathematical concepts. Math Techbook has been independently verified by EdReports.org to meet the highest levels of mathematical content and pedagogy.

EVSC science, social studies and math teachers integrating Techbooks into classroom instruction in the coming year will receive robust professional development from Discovery Education experts. Through these interactive professional learning opportunities, participants will learn best practices for integrating technology and digital content into teaching and learning in ways that will maximize the power of their new resources, increase student engagement in instruction, and improve students’ academic achievement.

“Our expanded partnership is exciting,” said Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s Director of Science, Dr. Vic Chamness.  “We have seen great engagement in science and are looking forward to our students expanding their use and learning with Discovery Education.”

EVSC educators using Techbook will also be supported by the Discovery Education Community as they transform students’ learning experiences with dynamic digital media. A global community of education professionals, the Discovery Education Community connects members across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration.

“EVSC’s vision for excellence in its schools is inspiring,” said Discovery Education Partnerships Manager Andrew Harshey. “Discovery Education is proud to be supporting the efforts of Superintendent Smith and the entire Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation to continue the district’s efforts to help all students maximize their potential and be successful throughout each stage of their lives.”
