Louisiana Public Broadcasting and Discovery Education Renew Long-Term Partnership Empowering Educators to Create Engaging Digital Learning Experiences
–In Its 16th Year, Partnership Between LPB and Discovery Education Helps Public Broadcaster Continue Serving as the State’s Largest Classroom–
Silver Spring, Md. (May 7, 2019) – Discovery Education, the leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms, today announced a renewal of its long-term partnership with Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB). LPB’s extension of its 16-year collaboration with Discovery Education continues empowering K-12 educators to create dynamic digital learning experiences with high-quality content from Discovery Education Streaming Plus.
LPB is Louisiana’s largest classroom over the air, on every device, in schools, and in the community. LPB’s Educational Services Department is committed to providing extensive information, lesson plans, materials, and digital resources to support formal K-12 education statewide. Through its long-term partnership with Discovery Education, LPB offers educators a host of digital resources, such as Discovery Education Streaming Plus, that help teachers build engaging learning experiences for all students.
Discovery Education Streaming Plus is a comprehensive digital service that supplements teaching and learning across all K–12 curricular areas. Discovery Education Streaming empowers educators to create dynamic learning environments that mirror students’ use of technology outside the classroom through engaging lesson plans, instructional strategies, and content collections organized around themes. Students can access images, primary source documents, podcasts, oral interviews, books on tape, articles, and videos, as well as a collection of new STEM resources designed to fuel a cultural shift in teaching and learning.
Students in elementary, middle and high school that have regular access to Streaming resources have higher attendance rates and are outpacing their peers on state assessments in reading, mathematics, and social studies. Additional findings tell a consistent story of how access to Discovery Education Streaming can be linked to higher student achievement, especially for racial/ethnic minorities and students impacted by poverty, disabilities, and limited English proficiency.
