— New Digital Curriculum to Help Ensure All Students Build a Strong Foundation for Future Success and Reach their Full Potential–

Silver Spring, MD (July 15, 2019) — Wyoming’s Jackson Hole Middle School (JHMS) today announced they have selected Discovery Education to support the creation of engaging science and social studies learning experiences in the school’s classrooms.  Discovery Education is the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms.

Located in Northwest Wyoming as the southern gateway to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park and within Teton County School District #1, Jackson Hole Middle School is dedicated to ensuring all students have a strong foundation for future success and are challenged to reach their full potential.

To kick-off the coming school year, JHMS educators will begin integrating Discovery Education’s Science Techbook into classroom instruction to supplement current classroom resources. The school’s educators believe that a blended learning environment mirroring the use of technology outside the classroom helps prepare students for college, careers, and citizenship, and have chosen Discovery Education’s digital science and social studies curriculums to help create immersive, technology-rich learning experiences in those subjects.

Utilizing an inquiry-based format built on the Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate (5E) model, each Science Techbook includes rich, standards-aligned content such as video, audio, text, interactives with hands-on activities, and virtual labs that help educators differentiate instruction and provide a rich and engaging learning experience for students. Additional student features include bilingual text-to-speech and leveled reading tools and note-taking and highlighting capabilities.  The Science Techbook series also includes valuable STEM resources as well, including STEM Project Starters that encourage students to connect math, technology, and engineering to their understanding of science concepts to produce creative solutions to real world problems, and the STEM In Action resources, which help students connect their work to STEM careers.

At the same time, JMHS educators will introduce Discovery Education’s Social Studies Techbook to students.  The Social Studies Techbook uses an inquiry-based instructional approach that emphasizes informational text literacy, analytical writing, and problem-solving skills that students will apply in the classroom and beyond. This revolutionary digital curriculum is standards-aligned and features exciting content that strengthens literacy, critical thinking, and citizenship skills. From stories of ancient cultures to current events, this comprehensive digital textbook takes concepts off the pages and brings lessons to life.

“Jackson Hole Middle School’s talented educators strive each day to provide their students an exceptional learning experiences that teaches the importance of embracing change and striving to recognize their fullest potential,” said Holly Voorhees-Carmical, JHMS Assistant Principal.  “The addition of Discovery Education’s powerful digital curriculum will help us provide our students the technology-rich learning environments that support the personal and academic growth of all our students.”

JHMS educators will also receive support from the Discovery Education Community. A global community of education professionals, the Discovery Education Community connects members across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration.

“The team at Discovery Education is excited to begin this new collaboration with the teachers and administrators of the Jackson Hole Middle School,” said Discovery Education National Partnerships Coordinator Jeff Rothberg. “We believe the combination of the schools’ talented teachers and our dynamic digital content will enhance science and social studies instruction for each of the JHMS’s more than 700 students.”
