This session presents data about why districts need a STEM education plan that includes their local STEM stakeholders, the best practices involved in STEM and the impact this makes on real students in real districts.
Science and Math Strand-Using Technology to Engage Students in Problem Solving
During this presentation participants will see specific examples of how technology is transforming science and math teaching and learning. They will be exposed to STEM competitions, ways to use STEM to grow the capacity of teachers and administrators in their buildings and ways to fund STEM. They will leave with resources to use in their class, school and district and be inspired to implement these strategies with their students.
A Case Study in STEM
This session presents data and anecdotes from a 5 year mission to radically improve teaching and learning PreK-12 for all students in Charlotte NC using Discovery and real world problem solving.
Putting the Sizzle in STEM
This session provides hands-on experience with STEM challenges and data about why employing them engages students.

Participants will be exposed to free resources for STEM competitions, afterschool and summer camp opportunities for their students.

Math teachers will have the opportunity to explore how STEM problem solving experiences can help math students acquire math skills. Participants will leave with resources to begin these strategies in their classrooms.
STEM and Achievement Gap
Participants will see how technology and STEM learning experiences are used with English language learners, struggling readers and students with poor math skills. They will see how Discovery and STEM were used in Charlotte NC to decrease the gap between struggling and successful students, as well as to empower teachers.
A Case Study in using STEM to Transform Teaching and Learning
Participants will find out how the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools used science and STEM to engage and motivate students and teachers. They will leave with strategies they can begin to use in their classrooms, schools and districts and will find out about resources to help them grow along the STEM education continuum.
Using Technology and STEM to Level the Playing Field
Participants will find out out specific ways to use STEM strategies to motivate students, improve their academic achievement and connect with the STEM community in workforce development. They will leave with valuable data and resources to help them use 21st century teaching and learning approaches with their students.
