Mission: Connecting educators to their most valuable resource, each other.
Founded in 2005, the Discovery Education Community is an active and growing group of education professionals who are passionate about transforming the learning experience and sharing best practices for using digital media. We support your Discovery Education Community by connecting members across town and around the world through social media, virtual conferences and in-person events — fostering valuable networking, idea-sharing and inspiration.
Since 2005, members of the Discovery Education Community have held over 65 thousand events impacting more than 2.6 million educators.
We believe in the power of communities of practice to transform teaching and learning. Here are some of our thoughts about the importance of community.
Researchers at Harvard's Graduate School of Education explored the impact involvement in the Discovery Education Community has on professional growth and technology use. When asked what was most important to professional growth in their field, educators referenced building a network of colleagues, having access to great resources, getting new ideas about how to integrate technology, and being able to keep up with current trends.
According to the lead researcher, the Discovery Education Community "clearly meets a need among educators through providing an opportunity for participants to share successes, receive meaningful and relevant support from each other as well as staff, and participate in a nurturing community of practice that helps them keep abreast of current educational advances."
