–Continuation of 12-Year Collaboration Ensures Louisiana Students and Educators Access to Comprehensive K-12 Digital Resources–

SILVER SPRING, Md. (October 29, 2015) – Discovery Education, one of the leading providers of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, today announced a one-year renewal of its 12-year partnership with Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) providing educators across Louisiana access to dynamic digital content.  Since the inception of the Discovery Education-LPB partnership, Louisiana’s educators and students have integrated more than 19 million digital learning objects from the Discovery Education Streaming service into instruction. As part of this expanded collaboration, Louisiana classrooms will now have access to the award-winning Discovery Education Streaming Plus.

Discovery Education Streaming Plus is a comprehensive digital service supplementing instruction across all K-12 curricular areas. Resources are aligned to state standards and are searchable, and include videos, images, primary source documents, podcasts, oral interviews, audio books, articles and more.  LPB is proud to include its own educational productions in Discovery Education Streaming Plus for statewide and national distribution.

Teacher resources available through Discovery Education Streaming Plus include lesson plans, instructional strategies and content collections organized around themes, as well as including instructional videos, skill builders, writing prompts, multimedia activities and articles. Through its popular Board Builder feature, students can create virtual project boards using multimedia and text to synthesize their thinking and provide evidence of their understanding of a concept or problem.

“For over 40 years, Louisiana educators have looked to LPB as a trusted source of engaging content for their students,” said Beth Courtney, President and CEO of Louisiana Public Broadcasting. “We are pleased to build on our partnership with Discovery Education, which brings to educators across the state the powerful digital resources they need to build the authentic digital learning environments today’s students demand and deserve.”

The Discovery Educator Network (DEN) will continue to support educators served by LPB in their efforts to transform students’ learning experience with digital media. A global community of education professionals, the DEN connects members across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration.

“Discovery Education’s long-standing partnership with Louisiana Public Broadcasting ensures educators statewide have access to rich multimedia content they can use to meet the needs of diverse learners, increase student engagement and advance academic achievement,” said Andy Schaefer, Vice President of Education Partnerships at Discovery Education. “We are pleased to continue our relationship with the great team at LPB in pursuit of our joint mission to support the success of each learner.”
