DISCOVERY EDUCATION ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS TEAM WITH FOUR NEW HIRES

Silver Spring, Md. (May 29, 2014) – Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, today announced the appointment of four new hires to its Educational Partnerships team, responsible for working with educators and administrators to develop customized solutions that create digital learning environments supporting the success of each learner. The new hires will be based out of Discovery Education’s Charlotte, N.C. office.

Katie Morrison joins Discovery Education as Director of Urban Partnerships. In her new role, Morrison will collaborate with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and other large, urban school districts nationwide to facilitate the integration of digital curriculum, custom professional development, assessment resources and educator communities that support the transition to dynamic digital learning environments.

Prior to joining Discovery Education, Morrison served in concurrent roles at Chicago Public Schools (CPS) as Chief of Staff for Innovation & Incubation and Director of Restructuring Operations. During her tenure at CPS, she led a number of strategic initiatives including the development of policy supporting a new, student-based school budgeting process, as well as capacity restructuring efforts. Prior to her work at CPS, Morrison held numerous financial and strategic management positions at Baxter Healthcare in Deerfield, Ill. and Ford Motor Company, in Dearborn, Mich.

Katie received her BBA from the University of Notre Dame and her MBA from the University of Michigan.

Megan Haller joins Discovery Education as Director of National Partnerships.  In her new position, Haller will lead an inside support team collaborating with school systems and schools to enhance student outcomes and academic achievement. 

Haller joins Discovery Education from CPI Security, Inc., where she was Director of Inside Sales.  In that capacity, she managed the Charlotte-based company’s largest sales channel, restructured the organization’s inbound and outbound call center, and developed strategies that helped drive the company's growth. Prior to that role, Haller spent 14 years at Charlotte-based Windstream Communications, Inc. 

Kelly Hines joins Discovery Education as Professional Learning Community Advisor for the company’s Southeast region.  In her new position, Hines will support members of the Discovery Educator Network (DEN), the organization’s professional education learning community, as they integrate digital media and educational technologies into classroom instruction. She will also work with school districts across the Southeast region to strategically grow and develop their educators through focused and sustainable professional learning communities. 

Hines brings a wealth of experience to her new role, as her career in education includes over fifteen years as a classroom teacher. She has served as an Academically Gifted specialist and mentor, and is a National Board Certified Teacher and Kenan Fellow. 

William Ward III joins Discovery Education as an Education Partnership Specialist.  In this role, Ward will support Discovery Education’s partnerships with school systems across the organization’s South region.

Ward joins Discovery Education from TWG Plus, a higher education firm based in Austin, Texas. During his time at TWG Plus, Ward managed partnerships for Community Colleges and Historically Black Colleges and Universities nationwide.
