(Feb. 24, 2012) – Discovery Education has named Dean Shareski community manager of the Canadian Discovery Educator Network (DEN), a community of educators who are passionate about teaching with digital media, sharing resources, collaborating and networking. With more than 20 years of experience in education and a specialist in the use of technology in the classroom, Shareski will connect educators throughout Canada and support them in leveraging digital media in their classrooms to transform and enhance learning. “Dean has a strong record of inspiring educators and igniting students’ natural curiosity with the use of technology in the classroom,” said Andy Schaefer, vice president and general manager of Discovery Education Canada. “His passion and expertise will be tremendous assets to Discovery Education as we facilitate teacher connections around the transformation of classrooms with digital solutions.” As community manager for the DEN, Shareski will work with educators online and in-person to share ideas and resources and develop innovative programs for educators throughout Canada. In addition, he will conduct various professional development and networking activities to assist educators in effectively using digital media in their classrooms. Prior to joining Discovery Education, Shareski served as a digital learning consultant for the Prairie South School Division in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. He also served in various roles for Powerful Learning Practice, where he helped educators around the world build technology-rich learning environments. Shareski began his career teaching grades 1-8. Shareski has spoken at workshops and seminars across Canada and the United States, including TEDX Saskatoon and the K12 Online Conference. He teaches pre-service teachers at the University of Regina.
