Silver Spring, Md.(August 31, 2011) – Discovery Education announced today its plan to engage educators and students beyond the walls of their classroom with immersive learning experiences covering the events of 9/11 and exploring the innovations and challenges associated with rebuilding a sacred site. Honoring the victims, survivors and all those affected by 9/11, Discovery Education, in collaboration with the September 11th Families’ Association and Tribute WTC Visitor Center, will provide free educator resources, host previews of Discovery Channel’s documentary RISING: REBUILDING GROUND ZERO with panel discussions and update its flagship service, Discovery Education streaming, with 9/11-focused resources.

Celebrating the communities, the stories and the resiliency represented by Americans most impacted by the tragic events of that day, Discovery Education will host four events in cities closely affected by 9/11 featuring previews of RISING: REBUILDING GROUND ZERO, a series showcasing the men and women determined to rebuild and restore a sacred site by constructing the new, 104-story One World Trade Center. Streamed live to students nationwide at no cost, each event will be followed by live panel discussions with members of the community who will share how they were personally affected by 9/11.

About the Tribute WTC Visitor Center
The Tribute WTC Visitor Center is located at 120 Liberty Street along the south side of the World Trade Center site. The center was created by the September 11th Families’ Association to share the personal stories of victims, survivors, rescue and recovery workers, volunteers, and residents of Lower Manhattan. By engaging visitors in the authentic experiences of those most affected by the events of February 26, 1993 and September 11, 2001, the center’s five galleries and its walking tour program convey the efforts of those who responded to the tragedy and the steps taken towards working for a more peaceful world by many of those impacted by the events.
