Silver Spring, Md. (Feb. 21, 2012) – Discovery Education has named Peter Mochnal director of community college strategy and partnerships, responsible for developing Discovery Education Higher Ed, the company’s new digital content service specifically designed for community college teachers and students. With 14 years of experience in management and operations, Mochnal will work with community college presidents and key decision makers across the country to develop and implement effective strategies to integrate digital content into classrooms.

“Peter has a strong record of developing partnerships, strategic initiatives and innovative programs,” said Scott Kinney, senior vice president, Discovery Education. “His knowledge and experience in education management and operations will be a tremendous asset to develop Discovery Education Higher Ed, integrate digital content into community college classrooms and provide ongoing support to educators and administrators.”

In addition to helping integrate digital content into classrooms, Mochnal also will focus on developing a higher education community dedicated to sharing resources and professional development.

Prior to joining Discovery Education, Mochnal worked for Vantage Learning, where he was responsible for developing educational partnerships related to their web-based instructional and assessment applications and led the national launch of a K-12 writing program. He also previously served as vice president of business development and partnerships for Spotnana First and Business Class Travel.

Mochnal holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and mass communications from James Madison University and an associate degree from Raritan Valley Community College.

Discovery Education Higher Ed will provide curriculum-based, digital content to community colleges across the U.S. to prepare students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be competitive in today’s job market. Similar to Discovery Education’s streaming service for K-12, the new service will offer post-secondary students content that is both current and relevant and provide them with dynamic, engaging resources, including video clips, ebook passages and more.
