DISCOVERY EDUCATION WELCOMES TANYA VAN COURT AS NEW SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, PARTNER MARKETING

Silver Spring, Md. (Jan. 31, 2012) – Discovery Education named Tanya Van Court senior vice president of partner marketing, where she is charged with overseeing the development of consumer-facing programs and district-led initiatives to support educators in their transition to digital learning environments. With more than 15 years of experience in media, interactive technology and youth-based learning experiences, Van Court will lead the development and execution of marketing programs that optimize the power of media and the resources of Discovery to bring the world to classrooms nationwide.

“Tanya is a seasoned executive with an incredible record of developing innovative products and programs that deliver real results,” said Lori McFarling, chief marketing officer for Discovery Education, to whom Van Court will report. “Tanya’s passion and expertise will be tremendous assets to Discovery Education’s partners as we facilitate transformation with digital solutions that ignite students’ natural curiosity.”

In addition to Van Court`s marketing portfolio, she also will lead Discovery Education`s strategic partnerships with key educational foundations, accountable for guiding the development of innovative educational programs for the K-12 and higher education markets.

She joins Discovery Education from Nickelodeon, where she was senior vice president and general manager of NOGGIN, ParentsConnect and NickJr.com. In that position, she led Nickelodeon to become a key player in the parents’ online space and bolstered NOGGIN and NickJr.com`s positions as educational, interactive, resources that provide rich experiences for both children and parents.

Prior to Nickelodeon, Van Court served as vice president of new media products for ESPN, where she led the launch of ESPN 360. Van Court began her career in the telecommunications industry, spending several years with Covad Communications, where she was instrumental in the launch of DSL in several international markets.

Among her many industry achievements and affiliations, she is a graduate of the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications Executive Leadership Development Program and was named a 2005 Betsy Magness Fellow by Women in Cable Telecommunications. She also was named one of the top 50 most influential minorities in Cable World. Van Court holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in industrial engineering from Stanford University.
