(Feb. 24, 2012) – The Discovery Educator Network (DEN) has launched the DEN Dr. Lodge Video Challenge, a competition that invites classes across the country to select one of Dr. Lodge McCammon’s standards-based songs, learn the dance moves and film a music video. The purpose of the challenge is to connect concepts to music and movement to better engage students while they learn. The grand prize winner will receive a school assembly with Dr. Lodge McCammon (Dr. Lodge), a renowned education expert who writes songs and supporting materials, about science, math, language arts and social studies topics for K-12 classrooms. “The Discovery Educator Network is proud to partner with Dr. Lodge McCammon to provide teachers an engaging and creative way to help students learn science, math, language arts and social studies concepts,” said Kyle Schutt, account manager for the DEN. “The challenge is designed to help teachers differentiate their instruction by incorporating technology while providing a fun and educational experience for students.” To participate in the challenge, classes should visit the DEN Dr. Lodge Video Challenge website, https://www.discoveryeducation.com/DEN/drlodgevideochallenge.cfm. Classes should film their video using the simple, one-take technique (no transitions, digital effects or editing is permitted) and submit through the website by March 4, 2012. Sample music videos are available on the website. A panel of judges will select the top 30 entries based on their content, organization and creativity. The entries will then appear on the DEN Dr. Lodge Video Challenge website, and the public will be invited to vote March 19-25 to determine the grand prize winner. Winners will be announced at the beginning of April. The top 11 finalists will receive a Flipcam and 30 backpacks for students. The grand prize winner also will receive a school assembly during which Dr. Lodge will perform the winning song live while the class acts out their video. The performance will be streamed to classrooms across the country.
