Moving Forward with Discovery Education Science Techbook

Center Grove is a small, innovative school district with 8 buildings serving 7,500 students in the center of Indiana, just south of Indianapolis. It prides itself on providing world-class educational opportunities for its students and is the focal point of the community. During the last state-wide science textbook adoption, Center Grove administrators realized traditional, print-based textbooks were not going to serve their students well. They understood a different approach was required to engage their students in science and to maximize their investment in technology.
Goals
Center Grove wanted a flexible, affordable science curriculum that challenged students to think critically about science and focus their efforts on practicing science as real scientists. Their students are tech-savvy, digital natives who expect more than print-based textbooks.
Solution
- Discovery Education Science Techbook implementation team, including curriculum and professional development professionals, developed a plan to help educators transition to a primarily digitally-delivered curriculum
- Community nights were held to excite and engage the wider community in this digital transformation.
Results
Students in grades 3-8 are exploring science in dynamic, engaging ways. Educators are enthusiastically bringing the world of science into the classroom, making the real-world, cross-curricular connections so critical to their students’ future success. Science Techbook is inspiring the next generation of scientists, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
