AASL identifies several goals where librarians bring leadership to empower learners, they identify the potential of today’s school librarian to be a leader in furthering school instructional goals, building a collaborative culture, and impacting student achievement.
We’ll start with opening remarks from renowned school library advocate , Lesley Farmer, to start a discussion where we will investigate together the different ways that you (can) serve as a leader in your schools.

Make Libraries the Natural Hubs for Generative AI in Education
AI is a great leadership opportunity. Librarians not only provide information and resources–they are the key to systems that access them. Find the necessary skills and strategies and to make the library the hub for ChatGPT and other generative AI tools. Become familiar with the emerging legal frameworks. Master prompt engineering by learning to “use AI to use AI.”

Putting Great Career and Technical Education Resources in the Hands of Library Media Specialists
Many states and school districts have begun a renewed focus on Career and Technical Education (CTE). This is exciting news for our students because it opens so many doors for them. However, the world of CTE changes daily. This session will explore the different CTE resources that are part of the Discovery Education Experience and the variety of ways that they can be used.

The Essential Skills of Critical Media Literacy
New digital tools and resources are being created every day. It’s more important than ever that we teach our students critical media literacy skills, beginning in kindergarten. This session will highlight how Studio Boards became the vehicle for creating critical media literacy lessons in Los Angeles Unified School District. This session will provide you with several examples that you can use to build media literacy lessons for your students.
