Inspiring speakers will tailor sessions for K–5, 6–8, and 9–12 learners, culminating in a special all-grades broadcast live from Churchill, Manitoba —the polar bear capital of the world.

Drawing Connections: Exploring Animal Adaptations with Aaron Blaise and Polar Bears International

Celebrate Polar Bear Week with Discovery Education and Polar Bears International in a dynamic event designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding of animal adaptations through art and science.

Broadcasting live from Churchill, Manitoba, acclaimed wildlife artist and former Disney animator Aaron Blaise will guide students through a hands-on drawing lesson comparing polar bears and brown bears, while exploring how these animals have evolved to thrive in very different environments.

Alysa spearheads Polar Bears International’s Tundra Connections webcast program. She is passionate about science education and polar bear conservation and is dedicated to ensuring that future generations inherit a healthy planet.

Aaron Blaise
Artist

Aaron graduated from the Ringling College of Art & Design in 1989 from the Illustration program. He was then hired by Walt Disney Feature Animation where he spent 21 years helping to create some of the greatest animated films ever made.

During that time, he worked as an animator or supervising animator on “The Rescuers Down Under”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Aladdin”, “The Lion King”, “Pocahontas” and “Mulan”. In 2003 he was co-director of “Brother Bear” for which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film. His most recent film, Snow Bear, is Set in a rapidly changing world, “Snow Bear” tells the story of a lonely polar bear in an unforgiving environment on his quest to find a friend.

Kyle Schutt
Discovery Education - Senior Director, Curriculum & Instruction (Moderator)

Kyle Schutt is a leader in media and educational technology with over 20 years of experience in teaching, instructional design, and developing impactful educational content and products. A former classroom teacher and graduate-level professor, Kyle brings a deep understanding of both pedagogy and innovation to his work.

As Senior Director, Curriculum & Instruction at Discovery Education, he leads teams that inspire educators and bring joyful, memorable learning experiences through the creative use of digital media and technology. Since 2010, Kyle has proudly partnered with Polar Bears International to help students and teachers explore the Arctic ecosystem through immersive virtual experiences.
