Georgia’s Clayton County Public Schools Announces a New Partnership with Discovery Education Supporting STEM Education

PR STEM 2022 3 2

Charlotte, NC (Monday, January 30, 2023)— Georgia’s Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) today announced a new partnership with Discovery Education supporting STEM education in K-8 classrooms across the district. Through this new collaboration, educators, and students in 13 district schools are now using Discovery Education’s award-winning digital resources to support STEM instruction. Discovery Education is the worldwide edtech leader whose state-of-the-art digital platform supports learning wherever it takes place.

Serving more than 52,000 students, CCPS is ranked among the 100 largest school districts in the United States and is the fifth-largest school system in Georgia. The school district is highly diverse, with 90 different ethnicities and countries represented, and 72 different languages spoken.

When CCPS’s Office of STEM & Innovation sought an engaging digital solution that would empower scholars to achieve academic and personal goals by providing equitable access to resources and experiences that build the skills needed for the 21st century and beyond, it undertook a comprehensive review of available options. Following that review, the district selected the Discovery Education platform and STEM Connect to support CCPS educators in creating interdisciplinary lessons and STEM units.

Connecting educators to a vast collection of high-quality, standards-aligned content, ready-to-use digital lessons, intuitive quiz and activity creation tools, and professional learning resources, the Discovery Education platform provides educators enhanced learning resources that facilitate engaging, daily instruction in any learning environment. These resources, sourced from trusted partners, are aligned to state and national standards, and help educators bring the outside world into teaching and learning every day.

Discovery Education’s K-12 learning platform is designed to work within the school systems’ existing infrastructure and workflows and provides safe, secure, simple access methods for educators and students. Through expanded, lasting partnerships with Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, Schoology, Canvas, Brightspace, and Clever, integrating Discovery Education’s K-12 learning platform into existing IT architecture is easier than ever.

Delivered to students through the Discovery Education platform, STEM Connect is an interdisciplinary K-8 resource that blends dynamic digital content with ready-to-use lessons and hands-on activities to enhance core curriculum and cultivate valuable design thinking skills that prepare students for the future. Built on the 4Cs framework and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, STEM Connect purposefully integrates across disciplines and provides all the necessary resources to introduce real-world challenges and design thinking skills to students.

Together, these resources provide district educators a suite of powerful tools with which they explore uncharted territories of learning opportunities through research-based design thinking; create mechanisms for critical thinking, problem-solving, and culturally responsive outcomes; and reimagine endless possibilities of critical thought solutions for problems of the future.

Clayton County Public School is committed to creating academically challenging, safe environments grounded in the instructional priorities of literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, and technology integration,” said Trina Reaves, CCPS Director of STEM and Innovation. “These new resources support that mission, and we look forward to integrating them into classroom STEM instruction.”

Discovery Education will also provide CCPPS’s educators dedicated professional learning to help teachers effectively use these resources in the coming school year and recognize the full return on their edtech investment. Through these interactive professional development sessions, participants will learn best practices for integrating their new digital resources into STEM instruction. Effective professional development will maximize the power of these resources, increase student engagement in learning, and support the continued academic development of all learners.

CCPS educators using Discovery Education resources are supported by the Discovery Educator Network as they transform students’ learning experiences with dynamic digital media. A global community of education professionals, the Discovery Educator Network connects members across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration.

“Discovery Education is proud to launch this new partnership with the talented team at Clayton County Public Schools,” said Kristin Nix, Discovery Education Regional Vice President. “We look forward to working to support their innovative vision for STEM education in their community.”
